How do I configure the Xten Software Phone?
X-Lite: Downloading and Configuring

A "softphone" is a piece of software that you download to your computer, which combined with our free trial enables you to experience VoIP technology and experiment with set up and call quality. You will also need a headset, the Plantronics 400 is a great example.

We recommend the X-Lite which may be downloaded free from Xten: http://www.xten.com/index.php?menu=download

When you have downloaded it (by selecting the X-Lite_install.exe file from the linked directory above), you must configure it - this is a fairly straightforward process and is described briefly below.

  1. Press the menu button on the main display. This is the button to the right of the "clear" button in the middle of the window, as shown.

  2. Select "System Settings" from the configuration window that appears.

  3. Select "SIP Proxy" from the next menu screen.

  4. Select the item labeled "[Default]" from the list of SIP servers.

  5. Enter your name, your user name and authorization user, both of which are your VoIP extension (nnnnnnn), and your password, which is specified in your trial confirmation email.
Finally, Set the Proxy Domain to the registration server name you will have been advised to use in your welcome email (this will look like sip.gradwell.net or lon-pbx-n.gradwell.net) and set the port number to 5060 .
    Note: n represents a number
Set the Proxy for NAT to the Outbound Proxy server name you will have been advised to use in your welcome email (this will look like nat1.gradwell.net or nat2.gradwell.net) and set the port number to 5082 .

  6. Return to the main menu by pressing BACK three times.
  7. Select Advanced System Settings, Audio Settings, and finally Silence Settings.
  8. Double click Transmit Silence, double click Yes, and then click BACK.
  9. Close the menu window using the cross sign in the upper right corner.
  10. You will also need to set the following "System Settings | Network"
You should have an entry for the Primary DNS Server and if you are using the Outbound Proxy enter the details for NAT to the Outbound Proxy server name you will have been advised to use in your welcome email (this will look like nat1.gradwell.net or nat2.gradwell.net) and set the port number to 5082

Your X-Lite installation should now be ready to use! Dial 160 to try the echo test. You should hear everything you say echoed back to you.
